Instagram: Algorithms favor consistency
3X to 7X at a minimum
If you are an entrepreneur I am sure you have heard it a million times: the only way to get moving in the right direction is to get moving in the right direction. Taking that first step is often the scariest, but it is essential that you start.
Instagram is no exception to this rule. As you begin to show up on Instagram, keep in mind that perfection is not the goal. Contrary to traditional media, the social media audience is much more forgiving of copy errors or off-angle photos.
It is not good practice to make mistakes, but the fear of making mistakes should not stop one from starting. Once you start posting, be sure you are posting at least 3 to 7 times per week.
Timing Matters
Posting when your dream client is online is absolutely ideal. We will define your dream client in a later post.
Decide on a time to post on the days you post and post at the same time each day. (say post one more time!) If you don’t know what time they are online, then use your own habits as a starting place.
If you peruse Instagram every day at 3 pm, then chances are so is your ideal client. The more you post, the more you will discover when your dream customer is online.
Batching is OK
Are you feeling overwhelmed yet?
I don’t blame you. I said goodbye to my real friends and said hello to social media elbow when I first joined Instagram. (Okay, I made that up)
Seriously though, knowing how important it is to show up consistently, but being a father of four very active children made it almost impossible.
Thank goodness I am blessed with a social media guru in my life and Google is a handy tool. I will pass on that blessing to you now with two significant tips that are an absolute game changers and incredibly simple.
First, set an alarm on your phone for the dates and times you need to post. Throughout your life, always be ready to take a picture that strikes your interest or that you think would strike the interest of your ideal client. When your alarm goes off, grab a pre-taken photo, throw it up on IG with some copy and your hashtags. (Two more topics for later).
Bam!
Second, if you don’t want your life interrupted each time you need to post, I totally understand. I personally switched rather quickly to this method after a week of alarms. Find an auto-posting software that will allow you to schedule posts for the week, month, or even year.
I personally use a program called Planoly, but it is by far not the only one out there. These programs are excellent because not only does it auto-post for you, but they will also allow you to save hashtags for easy use and most have analytics to help you become a better poster.
